ISDA buys historic Ajo Plaza

It was an amazing summer! In July, ISDA completed the purchase of the north and south buildings in the historic Ajo Plaza, long the retail and social center of the community. The Plaza, east of the Curley School campus, has 90,000 square feet of commercial space, two-thirds of which is now vacant.

THE CAFETERIA GALLERY AT THE CURLEY SCHOOL

Featuring some of the most creative and exciting artists in the Southwest, the Cafeteria Gallery at the Curley School in Ajo, Arizona will captivate your artistic spirit. Located in the historic and protected old Curley School, the gallery is open Monday through Saturday.

THE CURLEY SCHOOL IN AJO, ARIZONA

The main building, an architectural masterpiece of Spanish Colonial Revival style, was built in 1919.  Additional buildings were added to the campus in 1926 and 1937. Renovation was completed in 2007 with the grand opening on May 29.

It's Not Just About the Awards, but...

"You’ve gotta be there,” was the quiet word from a friend in the governor’s office. Nothing else was volunteered, but it was enough to get ISDA Board Chair Jim Reiman and Executive Director Tracy Taft on the road to Rio Rico in June for the Governor’s Conference on Historic Preservation.
